Harmon Industries Facilities Awarded ISO-9001 Certification with TickIT

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (April 8, 1996) -- Harmon Industries Inc., today announced the awarding of ISO-9001 Quality System certification with TickIT to the company's Grain Valley and Warrensburg, MO manufacturing facilities, and its engineering offices in Omaha, NE; Louisville, KY; Grain Valley, MO; and Jacksonville, FLA. These facilities design and manufacture microprocessor based electronics and software packages for the railway and transit industry.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) publishes quality standards to increase quality and consistency and ensure continuous improvement in design, manufacturing, production and service.

To become certified, a company must implement and monitor steps and guidelines established for design engineering and manufacturing processes. The company must develop written procedures for production processes, create a corrective action system and implement an internal auditing function to monitor compliance. A three-member internal auditing team at the company oversees the certification process by spearheading documentation and monitoring compliance.

After a company has implemented ISO standards, they must hire an outside ISO-accredited auditing company to audit the company's ISO compliance. If the company meets the criteria for ISO certification, they officially become an ISO-certified organization.

TickIT certification is awarded for the quality management systems of organizations involved in the development and supply of software systems. The Department of Trade and Industry and the British Computer Society both support this certification, and many international companies require suppliers to have TickIT certification to supply software systems.
