Harmon Industries Awarded New Jersey Transit Contract

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (Thursday, November 14, 1996) -- Harmon Industries Inc., a leading supplier of signal and control equipment for railroad and rail-transit systems throughout North America and the world, announced today it was awarded a contract worth more than $17 million from Raytheon Infrastructure Services, Inc., the lead member of the 21st Century Rail Corp. Inc. consortium.

The New Jersey Transit Authority recently awarded 21st Century Rail Corp. Inc. a contract to build the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Transit System, an 11-mile, double-track, light-rail system linking Bayonne, N.J., with Hoboken, N.J. Ridership for the line is projected to be 100,000 passengers per day. Harmon will design and build the microprocessor-based train control systems with automatic train identification and central control computer used in this project. Completion of the initial segment is scheduled for the first quarter of 2000.
