Harmon Industries' Lee's Summit Operation Awarded ISO-9002 Certification
BLUE SPRINGS, MO. (April 1, 1998) - Harmon Industries, Inc., a leading supplier of signal and train control products to railroad and transit authorities throughout North America and the world, announces the company's Lee's Summit operation has been awarded ISO-9002 certification.
Harmon's Lee's Summit location performs asset management services, streamlining material handling and distribution for Harmon's railroad customers. The certification of this facility comes quickly after Harmon's Atlanta facility received ISO certification in December. It also marks the completion of the company's strategic plan for every Harmon facility to achieve a corresponding ISO-9000 standard.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) publishes quality standards to increase quality and consistency and ensure continuous improvement in design, manufacturing, production and service.
To become certified, a company must implement and monitor processes in accordance with the ISO-9002 standard to ensure quality of products and services. The company must also develop a written procedure, create a corrective action system and implement an internal auditing function to monitor compliance.
After a company has implemented ISO standards, they must hire an outside ISO-accredited auditing company to audit the company's ISO compliance. If the company meets the criteria for ISO certification, they officially become an ISO-certified organization.
"With the certification of Lee's Summit, we have completed a major strategic initiative to have every Harmon operation ISO certified," said Björn E. Olsson, president and chief executive officer of Harmon Industries, Inc. "We have increased the standards by which our company operates and will hold all future acquisitions to the same level of quality."
