Harmon Industries' Circuit Board Facility Awarded ISO-9002 Certification

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (Wednesday, February 5, 1997) -- Harmon Industries Inc., a leading supplier of signal and train control equipment for freight railroads and rail-transit systems throughout North America and the world, today announced its circuit board manufacturing facility in Warrensburg, Mo. has been awarded ISO-9002 Quality System certification.

The circuit board plant is the fourth Harmon manufacturing facility to earn certification, and is one of less than 10 percent of circuit board suppliers in North America certified to ISO 9000 series standards. All Harmon facilities are expected to be certified by the end of 1997, and complete ISO certification is part of Harmon's overall Total Quality Systems program.

"ISO certification is an important part of our overall Total Quality Systems mission," said Björn E. Olsson, president and chief executive officer of Harmon Industries. "It is a testament to our employees' abilities, and the quality systems already in place, that our circuit board operations are able to implement an ISO 9000 compliant quality system in fewer than nine months."

ISO certification is an essential part of Harmon's growth plans as it enables the company to do business in the international marketplace, and is increasingly important in servicing domestic markets.

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) publishes quality standards to increase quality and consistency and ensure continuous improvement in manufacturing, production and service. To become certified, a company must implement and monitor steps and guidelines set by the ISO. The company must develop written procedures for production processes, create a corrective action system and implement an internal auditing function to monitor compliance.

Harmon Industries, Inc. is a leading supplier of signal and train control products to freight and transit systems throughout North America and the world. The company is traded in the over-the-counter market and is quoted on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol HRMN. For further information, please contact Charles M.
