Harmon Industries' International Expansion Continues

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (Monday, July 28 1997) -- Vaughan Harmon Systems Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harmon Industries, Inc., announces it has been awarded two contracts by Railtrack Scotland. Vaughan Harmon will supply Train Describers at Motherwell and Glasgow Central, and at Edinburgh in Scotland. Train Describers follow the location of trains from dispatching centers and transmit that information to managing centers using microprocessor-based technology. The total value of the contracts is approximately $5 million.

These contracts continue a string of successful projects booked by Vaughan Harmon since being acquired by Harmon Industries in July, 1996. A leader in the manufacture of train describers, passenger information and modular railway control systems, Vaughan Harmon has been a major contributor to Harmon Industries' impressive expansion into the European rail market.

"This contract represents the commitment of Railtrack to invest in the improvement of the British rail system, a trend we expect to continue." said Björn E. Olsson, Harmon's president and chief executive officer. "Vaughan Harmon and its position in the U.K. market continue to play a significant role in Harmon Industries' initiative to expand our international market share."
