Harmon Industries Wins $2.4 Million Australian Freight Railroad Contract

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (Monday, April 10, 1995) -- Harmon Industries Inc., a leading supplier of signal and control equipment for railroad and mass transit systems throughout North America and the world announced today it was awarded a $2.4 million (U.S. dollars) train control contract with the BHP Iron Ore (BHPIO) railroad in Western Australia. Work began in early April and the targeted completion date is April 1996.

Harmon will upgrade the existing wayside signaling system and design and furnish an advanced cab signaling system to increase the operating efficiency of the BHPIO railroad. "This contract reaffirms Harmon's commitment to expand our presence in the international train control market," said Björn Olsson, Harmon's president and chief executive officer. "It's an important contract because we will utilize advanced microprocessor technologies on one of the world's premier heavy haul railroads."
