Harmon Industries Atlanta Facility Awarded ISO-9001 Certification
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (Tuesday, December 30, 1997) -- Harmon Industries Inc., a leading supplier of signal and train control products to railroads and transit authorities throughout North America and the world, announced the company's Atlanta facility has been awarded ISO-9001 Quality System certification.
Harmon's Atlanta facility focuses on signal engineering and manufactures customized wired signal houses as well as signal equipment racks. Harmon's corporate goal is for every facility to attain ISO-9000 certification. Today's announcement brings the company one step closer to achieving this goal.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) publishes quality standards to increase quality and consistency and ensure continuous improvement in design, manufacturing, production and service.
To become certified, a company must implement and monitor steps and guidelines established for design engineering and manufacturing processes. The company must develop written procedures for production processes, create a corrective action system and implement an internal auditing function to monitor compliance.
After a company has implemented ISO standards, they must hire an outside ISO-accredited auditing company to audit the company's ISO compliance. If the company meets the criteria for ISO certification, they officially become an ISO-certified organization.
"This certification confirms our Atlanta facility's commitment to quality," said Björn E. Olsson, president and chief executive officer of Harmon Industries, Inc. "ISO certification is an important part of Harmon's overall Total Quality Service mission and we are proud that all our facilities are dedicated to achieving the highest quality standards. The awarding of ISO certification continues to play a critical role in our strategy to expand the company's presence into the international freight and transit markets."
